Donegal defender Eamonn McGee admits that the county's record against Monaghan has been poor in recent years.

McGee revealed that he was only made aware of the full extent of their record against Monaghan while playing in this year's NFL Division Two final, which the Farney County won.

A Monaghan player made it known to the All-Ireland winning defender that Donegal have not beaten them in the championship since 1983.

Two qualifier defeats in 2007 and '08 along with last year's provincial final defeat and this year's league final loss makes for bad reading from a Donegal point of view.

The sides meet in Sunday's Ulster final and McGee stressed to the Donegal Democrat that it was time that they turned the tables.

"I didn't really notice it until one of the Monaghan players was shouting in my ear in the league final," revealed McGee.

"The gist of it was that we couldn't get near them in the last few years. Right he was. You don't want that hanging over you when you finish football. It's something I never noticed but unfortunately the stats are there."
