Cass could still cut the mustard

Kevin Cassidy is convinced he still has what it takes to compete at inter-county level.

The two-time All-Star was dropped off the Donegal panel in 2011 after falling foul of Jim McGuinness for contributing to a GAA book and missed out on the county's second All-Ireland success.

The 32-year-old Ghaoth Dobhair clubman admits, however, that he doesn't miss the extraordinary commitment that is demanded of gaelic footballers.

"Without a doubt, no problem I'd be able to play county level," Cassidy stated to the Irish Daily Star.

"If someone said right now, 'Kevin, you have to go back into play', it wouldn't be fitness-wise or talent-wise you'd miss out, it would be commitment.

"You'd be thinking 'right, do I really want to do it again?'

"It's crazy. I was speaking to someone about it last weekend. Whatever it was, 13 years, that was life and the most important think. There was nothing else in the world really.

"It's funny when you step away, you say to yourself or have a conversation with your friend and o as far as saying I'm amazed I even did it.

"Sometimes I kind of regret doing it for that long because you miss out on so much.

"Don't get me wrong, I had some fantastic times and met some fantastic people and had great experiences, but you put yourself in this bubble where it's football 24/7.

"That's what's unique in our sport, what makes it so special for our players."
