Final round in Allianz HL Group games

March 28, 2012
Next weekend sees the final round of group games in the Allianz Hurling League, after which the way will be clear for the semi-finals (Division 1), finals and relegation play-offs.

Here's how the play-offs work:

Div 1A and 1B
Top three in 1A qualify for the semi-finals and will be joined by the winners in 1B (First v Second). The 1B winners will be promoted to 1A and replaced by the losers of a play-off between the bottom two in 1A. The bottom two in 1B will play off to decide who drops to 2A.

The semi-final line-up will be as follows: Winners 1A v Winners 1B; 2nd 1A v 3rd 1A.
DIV 2A: Top two play off with the winners promoted to 1B; bottom two play off to decide who drops to 2B.
DIV 2B: Top two play off to decide who is promoted to 2A.
3A: Top two contest final.
3B: Top two contest final with winners promoted to 3A.

DIVISION 1A: FOUR CHASE SEMI-FINAL SPOT
Sunday (2.30): Kilkenny v Galway, Nowlan Park; Tipperary v Cork, Thurles; Waterford v Dublin, Dungarvan.
Kilkenny (6pts), Cork (6pts), Tipperary (5pts) and Galway (4pts) remain in line for the three semi-final places available from this group (the winners of 1B also qualify) while Dublin (1pt) will definitely be involved in a relegation clash, irrespective of how they fare against Waterford (2pts) next Sunday. If Dublin win (or if the match is drawn), Dublin and Waterford will meet in the relegation play off.
However, if Waterford win and Galway lose to Kilkenny, the relegation play-off will be between Dublin and Galway. Kilkenny need one point from their clash with Galway to ensure a semi-final slot but even if they lose they could still qualify, depending on the Cork-Tipperary result.
Galway are in the unusual position where a win would probably earn them a semi-final place while defeat could leave them facing Dublin in a relegation play-off.

DIVISION 1B: CLARE THROUGH TO FINAL
Sunday (2.30): Wexford v Laois, Wexford Park; Offaly v Clare, Tullamore; Antrim v Limerick, Casement Park.
Clare are through to the final ahead of their clash with Offaly next Sunday. They will be joined in the final (the winners will be promoted) by Offaly, Limerick or Antrim. Wexford and Laois, who meet in the final round of group games next Sunday, will meet later in a relegation play-off.

DIVISION 2A: CARLOW AND WESTMEATH THROUGH TO FINAL
Sunday (2.30): Wicklow v Carlow, Aughrim; Down v Westmeath, Newry; Derry v Kerry, Celtic Park.
There's one round to go but Carlow and Westmeath are through to the final, irrespective of the results. Down, Wicklow and Derry are in the relegation mix.

DIVISION 2B: KILDARE REACH FINAL
Sunday (2.30 unless stated): Roscommon v London, Athleague, 12.45; Armagh v Meath, Crossmaglen; Mayo v Kildare, Castlebar.
Kildare (8pts) are already guaranteed a place in the final and will be joined by one of the following: Meath (5pts), London (4pts) or Armagh (4pts).

DIVISION 3A: MONAGHAN AND FINGAL THROUGH TO THE FINAL
Sunday (2.30): Fingal v Donegal, Swords; Monaghan v Sligo, Inniskeen; Louth v Tyrone, Dowdallshill.
Monaghan (7pts) and Fingal (6pts) are through to the final. Louth and Tyrone, who play each other on Sunday are each on four points so the winners of their games could catch Final (if the latter lose to Donegal). However, Fingal would still qualify for the final as they beat both Tyrone and Louth earlier on in the campaign.

DIVISION 3B: FERMANGH THROUGH TO FINAL
Sunday (2.30): Leitrim v Warwickshire, Ballinamore; Fermanagh v Longford (Venue and time to be confirmed).
Fermanagh are through to the final and will be joined by Leitrim or Warwickshire.
