McGee says player criticism was unjust

January 24, 2012

Donegal's Neil McGee
Neil McGee was outraged by some of the personal criticism Donegal's players received last year.

As the Tir Chonail men swept to Division Two and Ulster SFC honours, their tactics came in for intense criticism in all quarters of the media. But it was the unjust treatment of their players that upset Gweedore man McGee:

"We got a lot of bad publicity last year," the All Star full back says in the Irish News. "Within the camp, it didn't really affect us.

"The only thing that would have bothered us is players getting personal criticism more than anything.

"As a team, it wouldn't bother us, but some of the players were criticised and it shouldn't happen.

"We worked really hard last year and we were criticised other years for not working hard, so you can't really win."
