Donegal secretary fuming over short notice

January 19, 2012
Donegal secretary Aodh Mairtin O Fearraigh has blasted Croke Park for not giving county board officers enough notice about this Saturday's meeting regarding the issue of payments to managers.

O Fearraigh told the Irish News that he learned about the meeting - which has been arranged in the wake of the release of GAA director-general Paraic Duffy's discussion document on manager payments - through the media.

"To be honest, we wouldn't be very happy that we got notice of the meeting on Tuesday morning despite being notified by the press on Monday. It wasn't ideal to get such short notice for such a matter as that. It's far from satisfactory.

"It's far from satisfactory when you have voluntary officers, working weekend shifts and what-not, trying to make arrangements and they're being notified by the national media on Monday that they're being summoned to a Croke Park meeting on Saturday - it's not good enough."

He added: "I won't be there myself, I'm actually working a weekend shift this weekend. I'm a voluntary secretary and can't be in two places at the one time."
