Gweedore condemn Cassidy axing

Donegal's Kevin Cassidy
Gweedore have slammed the decision to drop their star player Kevin Cassidy from the Donegal football squad.
The All Star defender was sensationally removed from the panel by manager Jim McGuinness last November following comments he made in the book 'This Is Our Year', and Gweedore have now finally broken the silence on the matter.
"The Gaoth Dobhair club would like to express our disappointment at the actions of the senior team manager and the county board at the expulsions of Kevin Cassidy, our club man, from the senior team panel and subsequent team holiday," delegate Frank McEleney said at Monday night's county board meeting.
"We feel that Donegal football is the main loser here. Kevin is a two-time All Star who played 124 games for our county. As a former county captain, we feel that he deserved better treatment than what he received.
"Our club has kept quiet on this matter in the hope that it could be resolved internally. We, as a club, are now asking that Kevin be left alone to get on with his family life, his work commitments and his football."
