Donegal's Murphy to have surgery

Donegal's Michael Murphy
Michael Murphy is expected to miss Donegal's entire NFL campaign due to surgery on a Gilmore's groin problem.
The Donegal captain will meet with a surgeon this morning to discuss what is the best option for him to take. But it seems certain that the star forward will opt for surgery.
Speaking after yesterday's McKenna Cup defeat to Cavan, Donegal manager Jim McGuinness insisted that the long-term welfare of the player was the most important thing.
"The only thing I will say about the decision that has to be made is that it'll be for the good of Michael in the long term," he said.
"If he misses part of the National League or all of it, it won't matter once he is following the rehab plan that will help him regain full fitness. He is only 23 and we won't be doing anything to jeopardise his career."
