Donegal are no closer to appointing an under-21 football manager after a number of candidates withdrew.

Donegal are due to play the first round of the Ulster championship in a little over two months time, giving the new manager little time to prepare and familiarise himself with the side.

Chairman PJ McGowan admits that the timeframe to find a new manager is small, but stressed that they would be doing all they can to fill the vacancy sooner rather than later.

"Unfortunately a number of people who were nominated withdrew and we are now seeking nominations for a second time and we are now treating it as a matter of urgency and that is why we have put a tight deadline on the closing date for nominations," McGowan told the Donegal Democrat.

"We have an interview committee in place and I would expect to have the position filled in the next ten days and the end of the month at the latest. If we do not receive any interest we are going to have go out and find someone for the job."
