Emigration concerns for Donegal

January 06, 2012

Emigration is a major problem particularly in counties like Galway and Mayo.
Donegal chairman PJ McGowan has admitted that the amount of young people emigrating is a concern.

The Ulster County has been hit harder than most with regards to emigration, mainly due to a lack of employment in the North West.

McGowan pointed out that the number of players seeking transfers out of the county has risen dramatically over the course of the past year.

"We have seen through transfers in the course of the year that the numbers leaving the county have increased significantly over the last 12 months," McGowan pointed out.

""Now whether all these were active playing members at the time of their departure is another matter. But the fact is that they are still leaving and sadly with the deteriorating employment situation it is going to get worse and I think the general expectation is that an awful lot more are going to leave in 2012."
