Cork native McManus included in Donegal squad

Cork man Conor McManus has been named in Donegal's Dr McKenna Cup squad.

McManus, who won a Cork SFC medal with Clonakilty in 2009 and got a couple of runs for Cork in last season's McGrath Cup, now lives in Donegal where he plays his club football with Kilcar and is therefore eligible to play for the Tir Chonaill men.

Donegal boss Jim McGuinness has also recalled Adrian Hanlon to his squad after he was dropped for disciplinary reasons after last May's Ulster SFC preliminary round victory over Antrim, while Glenswilly captain Gary McFadden, Mark McGowan, Peter Witherow and Christopher Murrin are others who will get the opportunity to impress.

Meanwhile, Donegal chairman PJ McGowan has hit out at critics of the ultra-defensive tactics which transformed the county's fortunes this year.

"Were the pundits and scribes really singing the praises of attacking play or were they really afraid that our opponents were not able to handle our style of play?" he asks in his address to county convention.

"Are we the only team to put men behind the ball? After one season together, we are a different unit to penetrate and I didn't hear too many Donegal supporters complaining."
