Inishowen Round Up
Over 200 young players converged on Sunday morning in Ture for the first ever Go Games finals day, which proved to be a most enjoyable day for all concerned. Played in brilliant sunshine, it was well organised once again by the Naomh Padraig club who had four pitches in operation. Congratulations to all the clubs and their players for their sportsmanship throughout, and also to the Muff club for their hospitality to the coaches, mentors and parents who turned out on the day in such large numbers also.
At senior level on the playing field there was disappointment for Urris in their attempt to reach the Intermediate championship final, when they went down to Bundoran in O'Donnell Park Letterkenny. Urris went behind early in the game and although they did narrow the gap to four points at one stage, the team from the south proved too strong in the end.
There was a major shock in the senior hurling championship semi final on Saturday, when reigning champions Burt lost out by two points to Sean McCumhaills. The Ballybofey boys have been knocking on the door of success for a few years and did give Burt a good run in last year's final, losing in the end by a goal. It is the first time in over twenty years that Burt has failed to make the county hurling final, a remarkable achievement and one that is unlikely to be repeated.
In the all county league division two, Buncrana made the long trip to Ballyshannon but returned pointless, losing by six points in the senior game. In the reserve game it was the same story, making it a bad day for the Scarvey men. In division four Naomh Padraig Uisce Chaoin missed out on the chance to narrow the gap on Downings when they lost by the minimum margin in Dunkineely against Naomh Ultan who have now joined Burt on sixteen points. However Burt return to football action on Tuesday night, when they should move back to third place if they can overcome a St Eunans team who have yet to win a match. In division five Glenfin held Malin to a draw at Connolly Park in midweek.
In underage hurling Buncrana retained their U12 hurling title after overcoming St Eunans in an exciting game played at Ture on Thursday night. The remarkable progress of the young Buncrana hurlers is to be commended, as they continue to make their mark in county competitions.
The Buncrana Cup U16 competition reached a conclusion on Saturday afternoon at the Scarvey and Derry emerged victorious for the second year in a row defeating Donegal by five points. Donegal had struggled to match the Derry side physically and never really posed too much of a threat. Earlier in the day Donegal had defeated Down at Burt in the semi final, while Derry overcame Monaghan at Ture.

The U16 team had their first challenge game last Wednesday at the Scarvey in Buncrana, against a North Donegal select, a panel of twenty three players made themselves available and all took part in the game at some stage, with a total of ten players getting their name on the score sheet. Recent training and coaching sessions told as the Inishowen boys hit an early goal and three points to set them on the way to an emphatic victory, eventually winning by 6-10 to 0-05. Despite the score line it was a useful workout, following their away day in Strabane the previous Saturday.

South Donegal 4.10
Colaisti Inis Eoghain 1.10
The Ranafast squad had another very useful workout against a good South Donegal squad on Sunday morning last in Ardara, played in wet slippery conditions the game was played mostly around the middle of the park for long periods. Possession was the name of the game in a tough hard fought game, refereed by County Coach Paddy Hegartyt who let the game flow as much as possible in the wet slippery conditions.
Ryan Curran opened the scoring for Inis with a point in the first minute, while Dara O Connor put over a free on 6 minutes and added another five minutes later, but Donegal responded quickly with a point from the kick out.
Donegal then added two points, before Conor Brennan added another point for Colaisti Inis Eoghain. A further point by the southerners was again cancelled out when Dara O Connor, Ruairy Bradley and Conor McCormick hit 1.03 between them,
and the Inishowen boys were looking good at half time as they led by 1-06 to 0-06
South Donegal however dominated the second half, making home advantage as they hit four goals, while Sean Clerkin's boys could only manage points from Conor Brennan 0.02, Ryan Curran0.01, Adam Byrne 0.10 and Dara O Connor 0.01.
Overall another satisfactory performance despite a three goal defeat and allowing for the fact that a few players missing due to hurling commitments, it was an enjoyable day out.
Another game has been arranged for Burt on Wednesday at 3.00 pm against a North Donegal selection, with all players asked to attend no later than 2.30 pm. They will return to Burt also on Sunday morning for another challenge game, details will be made available to all players in midweek.
