Minor ladies bid to retain All-Ireland crown
July 16, 2010
Donegal 3-12
Laois 3-8
Donegal ladies were made earn their place back into the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship final after a four-point win over Laois last Saturday in Mullahoran, Cavan.
Donegal got off to the best possible start in this last four clash as Ciara Hegarty hit the net early on, but her effort was soon cancelled out by Sinead Doogue doing likewise for the O'Moore women, who took the lead when the same player lofted over a nice point.
Donegal hit back with points from Hegarty and Geraldine McLaughlin, but they still trailed by 2-5 to 1-7 come the interval.
Alanagh McDonnell struck over a score to level the game a minute into the restart, before Niamh McLaughlin fired them back into the lead with a second goal, quickly followed by another white flag from McLaughlin.
Doogue's second goal kept the Leinster side in it, but Donegal raised their game after that and managed to overturn a four-point deficit with a quick 1-1 from McLaughlin, who finished with 1-10 to her name which was enough to haul the Tir Chonaill women over the finish-line.
Donegal will now take on Galway in the Ladies All-Ireland MFC final in two weeks' time, with hopes of recording a second success in as many years.
