Donegal's Brian McEniff
John McConnell has rejected Brian McEniff's claim that Martin McHugh accepted the Donegal manager's job then changed his mind.

All-Ireland winning manager McEniff stated in an interview in Gaelic Life that Martin McHugh accepted the vacant county managers job in 1999 only to have a dramatic change of heart within days.

McConnell, who was county chairman at the time, says this was not the case and is at a loss as to where McEniff got his information from:

"I'm not sure where Brian is coming from on this.

"It was no secret that Martin was my first choice for the job at the time. We spoke about it and, after he thought about it, he felt that he couldn't give the time the job deserved.

"At no stage was a package offered or agreed and to infer that there was is unfair to both Martin and myself."
