Doherty wants Devenney to continue

New Donegal football manager John Joe Doherty wants Brendan Devenney to be part of his squad for the coming season. The St. Eunan's forward, who turns 33 next month, indicated last week that his inter-county days are over, but Doherty believes he still has a lot to offer and is keen to get him on board. "I spoke to Brendan Devenney, and he had indicated that he was retired, but, you know you don't know for sure. I like everybody to keep open minds on all situations. I think they might do that," he said. "Like any manager, all you want is good players to be available to you. I would rate Brendan Devenney very highly. In the county final this year, he was man of the match. Obviously, it's everybody's own choice - but I don't intend to close the door on anyone." Doherty is also optimistic that another St. Eunan's man, Kevin Rafferty, will make himself available for selection.
