Ladies relegation play-off brought forward

November 14, 2008
The long awaited Ladies All-Ireland senior football championship relegation play-off between Donegal and Meath has been brought forward to next Sunday week. The game had been originally fixed for early December, but it is now set to take place on November 23 with a venue yet to be confirmed. Donegal boss Dominic McGlinchey is likely to be without both Karen Gutherie and Aoife Buggy, who are recovering from recent operations on their respective injuries, but insists that their focus since their exit from the championship has firmly been on the Royals. "The girls have been working away on a weights programme since September and have been training on their own a couple of nights a week as well. Saturday will be our first collective session and really it is not east to bring them all together with so many of them away on holidays. It is just a matter of getting back on track and getting our focus right for Meath," said McGlinchey. The winners of next Sunday week's play-off will see their senior status kept safely intact for another year, while the losers will have to brace themselves for a relegation final with Waterford early in the New Year.
