Doherty: I've no grudges
November 13, 2008
John Joe Doherty insists that he holds no grudges towards former team-mates Declan Bonner and Charlie Mulgrew, despite their attempts to unseat him as Donegal manager.
Bonner and Mulgrew, who played alongside Doherty on Donegal's 1992 All-Ireland winning team, earlier this week lodged a joint application with the DRA in a bid to have the process for appointing the Donegal manager re-run. Incensed by the process which led to them being snubbed for the post, they could yet succeed in having Doherty removed from the position.
But while acknowledging that the appointment process has "worked out very messy in Donegal", Doherty doesn't believe the DRA appeal will affect his friendship with his former team-mates regardless of its outcome.
"I have nothing at all against the lads. I would like to think that they would be the same towards me," the Naomh Columba clubman said.
"Declan and Charlie are obviously aggrieved in the same way that I was. If there is a mechanism for that grievance to be addressed, then it's up to themselves if they want to go down that road."
