James Kielt goal wins the day for Kilrea

Derry minor team-captain, James Kielt captured the limelight once again when he scored a decisive goal nine minutes from time for his club, Kilrea in their Elk Derry SFC clash with Castledawson on Wednesday, 29th of August. The game played in O'Cahan Park, Dungiven proved a very exciting and entertaining encounter, and ended with the Kilrea side winning on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-8. The Kilrea came into this game in a very determined mood and dominated play in the opening half - leading at the interval by 0-6 to 0-2. However, despite increasing that lead to 0-8 to 0-2 early in the second-half, Castledawson never 'threw in the towel' and making a real game of it in the second-half. Indeed, it was James Kielt goal for the Kilrea side nine minutes from time that was the decisive score, although it must be said that Castledawson battled to the final whistle. The four points margin in the end, was enough to guarantee Kilrea a place in the knock-out stages of the senior championship ahead of Castledawson, but it was in the balance right to the final whistle. Kilrea scorers were - James Kielt 1-1, one free; Charlie Kielt 0-3, James Donaghy 0-2 from frees; Paul Deighan 0-2 from frees and Conor McWilliams 0-1. Castledawson marksmen were - Conor Scullion 0-5, three frees; Paddy Henry 0-2, one free and Seamus McNicholl 0-1.
