Ring Cup: Exiles down Derry to reach semi-finals

London 3-11
Derry 1-15

London booked their place in the last four of the Christy Ring Cup thanks to a thrilling two-point victory over Derry at Celtic Park this afternoon.

The Exiles laid the foundations for their success in the opening half when they built up a 3-9 to 0-6 lead, but a stirring second half comeback by the hosts left them relieved to hear the final whistle. The visitors hit the ground running and a Luke Hand goal helped them to a 1-4 to 0-1 lead after 19 minutes.

The Oak Leafers cut the gap to five points before they were rocked by two more London goals from Hand and Martin Finn which looked to have given them an unassailable lead at the break.

But Derry refused to wilt and almost pulled off a great escape in the second half. Paddy Henry and Alan Grant lead their fight-back, with a goal from Lavey star Henry giving them real hope. But they were left to rue a number of missed goal scoring opportunities which allowed the visitors to hang on for the win, despite only registering two points in the second period.

The Exiles now join Wicklow, Down and today's other quarter-final winners Meath in the semi-finals - the draw for which has yet to be made.
