Enjoyable Youth Presentation Night Held
The club held their annual Youth Presentation night on Saturday 4th February 2012, to celebrate the achievements and participation of our underage players during the previous season.
Club chairman Paul Bradley welcomed all those children, parents and guests who attended the night, before thanking all those who had helped out in anyway with our underage teams during 2011, especially Aidan and Stephen McPeake, and Sean Mullan who were managing the Under 6s, 8s, 10s, 12s, while encouraging more parents to join in and assist our teams during the current season.
Paul made the point of highlighting how important the underage teams and management are to the club, and how the two special guests for the night, Derry Senior county player Brian McCallion, and Derry Under 21 panellist Ryan Tohill, had benefitted from the coaching at the club over the years; before wishing them and all the players all the best for the year ahead.
The presentations were then promptly made by Brian and Ryan to all those underage players who attended on the night. All players from Under 6 to Under 12 received certificates to thank them for participating during 2011, as well as club t-shirts and snacks. Our Under 10 team and Manager were also presented with the Castledawson Tournament trophy, which they won in 2011.
Our Under 16 team and managers, Harry Tohill and Noel Henry, were presented with their trophy and medals for winning the 2011 Under 16 C League.
The final award, and only individual award of the night went to Niall Loughlin, who was presented with the Under 16 Player Of The Year award, by manager Harry Tohill.
Well done to all the prize winners, and thanks to everyone who attended to give the children an enjoyable and hopefully memorable evening. Special thanks to all those who made food for the evening, as well as McCann's Filling Station and Supermarket, Glenone, and Fullans Eurospar Portglenone, who donated snacks for the children on the night.
Fundamentals Course
Greenlough Underage Management have arranged for a six week Fundmentals training course to take place starting from Thursday 9th February 2012. The course will be aimed at boys and girls in Primary 1, 2 & 3 and will be taken by Fionntán O'Dowd, a Primary School Coach for the Ulster GAA.
Details of the six week programme are on the club website and will take place from 6 - 7pm in the OP hall.
Notices will be issued to the school and it will be advertised in the bulletin over the next two weeks. Costs for players will be same as football on Friday nights £1.50. Children will take part from 9th February and will be held instead of their Friday night session for the next 5 weeks.
Primary 4 & 5 will train at the earlier slot of 6.30 - 7.30 on Friday night during these weeks.
We need as many parents as possible to take part to make the sessions worthwhile.
If you can help out or know of anyone else who would be interested please let Aidan McPeake know by e-mail (
