Cavanagh to support McGuckin defence

Tyrone's Sean Cavanagh
Derry defender Kevin McGuckin is hoping a letter from Tyrone's Sean Cavanagh will help him to escape a four-week ban.
McGuckin was issued with a straight red card after he became entangled with the current Footballer of the Year during last Sunday week's Ulster SFC semi-final at Casement Park.
Cavanagh admitted in a post-match interview that the sending off was "harsh", but it didn't stop the CCCC from proposing a four-week suspension for the Ballinderry clubman, who is set to miss two rounds of the All-Ireland qualifier series on July 11 and 18.
McGuckin will bring his case before the Central Hearings Committee in the coming days, and it's understood that Cavanagh will submit a letter which exonerates the defender of any wrongdoing.
In the letter, Cavanagh says that Tommy McGuigan bumped into McGuckin, and this collision forced him and McGuckin to fall. The Tyrone star confirms that the Derryman didn't strike him or provoke him while they lay on the ground.
Former Derry All-Ireland winner and Belfast-based barrister Joe Brolly has prepared McGuckin's case.
