Derry secure three-year Ladbrokes deal
November 29, 2008
Derry have secured a new sponsorship deal with British bookmakers Ladbrokes, which is set to last for three years, it was revealed yesterday.
Ladbrokes, which is thought to own over 2,200 betting shops between the UK, Ireland and Belgium, agreed the deal earlier this month, which sees them as the main sponsors for both the Oak Leaf County's football and hurling teams and at yesterday's Golden Jubilee celebrations for the Derry team which reached the 1958 All-Ireland football final against Dublin, and the Oak Leaf side which won the All-Ireland Maters this year the news was made official with a public announcement.
The deal brings to end a six-year sponsorship between Derry and Sperrin Galvanisers, and Derry secretary Danny Scullion thanked the company for their past support.
"Sperrin Galvanisers provided us with tremendous support," he said. "But they told us earlier this year that they would not be renewing their sponsorship in 2009.
"In the current economic climate, we knew it wouldn't be easy to secure a new sponsor, so obviously we were delighted when Ladbrokes declared an interest in getting involved with us.
"Ladbrokes see this deal as an ideal way of promoting their business throughout Ireland, and we are confident that it will prove very beneficial both to the company and ourselves."
According to Scullion, the sponsorship is set to increase in value the further Derry progress in both All-Ireland Championships.
