Devlin escapes ban
November 26, 2008
Ballinderry selector and former Tyrone defender Paul Devlin will be free to patrol the sideline in Sunday's Ulster club football final against Crossmaglen after a disciplinary mix-up allowed him to escape a ban.
Devlin received a 72-week suspension after an incident in the Derry county final win over Slaughtneil. A 96-week ban was originally proposed, but this was reduced by the Derry Hearings Committee.
However, it later emerged that as Devlin is not a Ballinderry club member, or even a Derry man, the case should have been dealt with by the Ulster Council. No date has yet been set for the hearing, and in the meantime Devlin is free to carry out his duties with the Derry champions.
The Ardboe clubman was a tight marking corner back on the Tyrone team which was controversially beaten by Dublin in the 1995 All-Ireland final.
