Watty Grahams Glen Notes

November 24, 2008
WATTY GRAHAMS GAC, GLEN On Saturday afternoon the reserves travelled to Desertmartin for the long awaited Championship semi final, with Bellaghy providing the opposition. Glen lined out without their influential captain Sean Higgins, who was nursing a broken fingernail. However this loss was somewhat counter balanced by the return to action of Sean Peter Gribbon who only recently has returned to Ireland after a World tour with Riverdance. Played in heavy underfoot conditions, Glen started brighter with a fine Niall McKenna point. However Bellaghy responded immediately with a pointed free kick. The remainder of the opening period was point for point with Conal McKee, Ciaran McKee and Gary Burke grabbing the Glen scores. Half time score Glen 0-05 Bellaghy 0-03. After the half time interval, Glen continued to play the better football and with Donal Leahy prominent at midfield, he provided good possession to the inside forwards. Further scores came from Mark O'Donnell, Niall McKenna and Ciaran McKee. Bellaghy however refused to wilt and continually responded with some fine points. With ten minutes remaining, Glen put together a great move, which culminated in Ronan Moohan firing to the Bellaghy net. Bellaghy rallied again, but the Glen defence stood firm and Glen fired over insurance points from Mark O'Donnell and Ciaran McKee. Final score Glen 1-13 Bellaghy 0-11. Best for Glen were Mickey Lagan, Donal Leahy, Ciaran McKee and Niall McKenna.
