Cassidy calls for end to AFL links

New Derry football manager Damien Cassidy has joined his Tyrone counterpart Mickey Harte in calling for the GAA to end its links with the AFL.
Cassidy's comments come on the same day as rising star James Kielt jets out to Australia for a two-week trial. However, he is keen to finish his academic studies at Queen's University and will be available to Derry for the coming season.
1993 All-Ireland winner Cassidy accused the GAA of "actively encouraging" AFL chiefs to "cream off" the best Gaelic football talent in the country.
"It's hard at times to understand why we're continuing to promote a hybrid game," he said.
"There are huge numbers of teams in different countries that are crying out for our support to try and promote Gaelic games in their jurisdiction. Who else is going to play this hybrid game after the series? Nobody."
