With the new format I assume it will be 4 groups of 4. So how can anyone placed third in the group qualify. Never mind the 2016 championship structure as this will be the last year in this format. At least Teams will have to fight hard this year to retain their status if the wish. Could make for some very interesting games. Not one to advocate violence and cynical play but you could very well see an increase in these scenarios when a teams status is on the line. Sorry lads, I had to start the debate and just see what people were thinking out there. I would hate to see any sort of a boycott and it is not the answer. Only players suffer if that happens. The Big Horse (Meath) - Posts: 28 - 03/02/2016 10:51:37 1821825 Link 0 |

dont think anyone is giving out about the 16 teams, its the drastic step to get there, i dont think the junior and intermediate championships are weak, sure didnt both our champions get to all ireland semi finals. 16 teams is better but it is not going to imporve the standard of meath football or even the strength of our senior champions in the provincial championships srgt_slaughter (Meath) - Posts: 462 - 04/02/2016 09:08:30 1822099 Link 0 |
It's a disgrace what's being done to get there, I reckon Boardsmill are absolutely delighted now to have been relegated last year as they have their best chance now of getting back up. They would have been shoo ins to be one of 7 relegated and be in a vastly more difficult junior B to get out of. Now they have a great chance in what's going to be an easier competition than next year. pim (Meath) - Posts: 119 - 04/02/2016 10:13:49 1822113 Link 0 |
There will be some amount of players looking for transfers next year after being relegated which could further weaken the lower grade clubs. Royal_Gunner (Meath) - Posts: 534 - 04/02/2016 12:13:11 1822165 Link 0 |
lads most County Board Officials were against it. The Clubs in Meath voted this in Crazy stuff how could they do this is beyond me. numberedjerseys (USA) - Posts: 348 - 04/02/2016 12:34:33 1822173 Link 0 |
Srgt Slaughter. Maybe it was the success in the leinster club IFC and JFC that inspired these changes, because they wanted more of that success. The regradings will strengthen intermediate and junior, since the requirement to win both is increased. Currently you had to be the 19th best team in the county to win intermediate, under the new system the winner will be 17th best. Same with junior, only there will be an improvement of 4 teams.
