Meath v Wicklow

Urizen , come on now Stoney is not our best man to man marker, Keoghan is our best man marker . . Stoney did have a good last few games int he league but I do fear for him in Croker that he doesn't have the gas to keep up with a nippy forward e.g Paul Mannion Dublin 2012 I think

I think it does matter what team is selected, hopefully get best fifteen on pitch and use to playing championship football together. Also we are in no position to take any team for granted. Burke will start if fit.

Meath should be winning this one by a minimum of 15 points in Navan and the bookmakers will reflect that. You have got to be putting teams like this to the sword ruthlessly to build up the mentality if you have any designs of eating at the top table.

IMO its more disrespectful to Wicklow to not go out and go hell for leather for 70 minutes.

I don't understand where some of the posters are saying Rooney over Flanagan. Rooney is not a bad player, but he seems plagued with injury. He had 1 or 2 decent games at senior level, then dissapeared with injury. He didn't figure at all in the u21 c/ship.He likes to run forward a lot. Flanagan IMOP is by far a better rounded mid-fielder. He played literally every minute of the Senior league games and every u21 c/ship game (and he was a stand out player). He covers massive ground and is the best man we have in the air by a mile. Gillespie and Flanagan for me in the middle.

Agreed royalezy I would put Flanagan because I have seen a lot of football from him this year and think he has earned his spot alongside Gillespie.. Rooney seems like a fantastic player and I would we get to see more of him but I am looking forward to see this current midfield pairing heading into the championship

Lads .. its nice to have an argument over 3 great midfielders at last.. We've been understrength here for years any combination of those three will be a challenge for most teams

Also much and all is i'd say no, there's no doubt Burke starts in a MOD team. I think there's better players than him in the panel but if he's fit MOD will start him.

As a guess i'd say MOD will pick the following (assuming all players are fit other than newman)
POR
DK, CMcH, DT
MB, KO'R, BM
CG AF
GO'R, PH, AT
EW, SB, JW

If it was me I'd pick
POR
DK, CMcG, DT
DD, BP, BM
CG, AF
GO'R, AT, PH
EW, SB, SO'R

I can not believe that micky burke is still on the meath squad never mind people saying he is the best man marker in the county.
The most natural defender meath have is davy dalton never even needs to put is hand on his opponent just waits till he takes a solo
or a hop and flicks the ball away thats a natural defender.
micky in my eyes wouldent be better than any of the fullback lines that played for o mahonys or summerhill a couple of years ago.
kevin rielly nial or stephen o toole or the hills davy dalton young and willy ryan.

I actually like Burke, despite not having him in my team, but it would be suicide to play him corner back against any decent team in croker, however he has played in the half back line in the last few games,I would not complain if he played there..

If Colm Brady was not going to be available for the champ, was there a point having him for the preparations etc?

Any idea what the capacity for navan is now? I remember health and safety going crazy as usual last year and saying 10k before it was brought back to around 16k. Hard to tell what sort of interest there is in meath but this being the first home match in 20 odd years it could push the allowed limit.

Gillespie and Kev Reilly did not line out for their clubs in the championship over the weekend... Should we be worried?

Micky Newman and Bryan Menton also missed championship games this weekend. Micky has a broken thumb. Menton has a broken hand or finger ?

yes game not live on telly either there was 23,000 in it in 2011 vs galway . galway were bad at the time and would have accounted for max 3,500. id say there could be 15,000 minimum in it v wicklow. luckily wicklows travelling support is prob 400 at most

Suddenly not good news on the injury front, currently we are missing 4 key players..

K Reilly, Gillespe, Menton and Newman are going to have to be available if we're to have a good summer, we can maybe manage without 1 of them but not 2 or more, these sort of injuries can be very deflating for the team and the fans aswell. But what's the news on them, are they out for long or can we expect them back shortly before or after the Wicklow game?

Thats the frustrating thing, these guys are physical guys and 3 of them are leaders imo,no idea whats going on,but I doubt they were left out of championship games as a precaution..

Also Harry Rooney has had injury problems and only used as a sub over the weekend!

I am very worried about the lads, makes you thinks had jimmy McGuinness a point?
But lets hope its nothing that will cause problems, we can beat Wicklow without those injured but we need them to play Westmeath / Wexford due to match time been needed ahead of dubs.

I know lads, it's frustrating but they still have time to get back once they're not seriously injured, it's still another 3 weeks till our opener against Wicklow and 5 till a potential LSF. Fingers crossed some of them can make it back and that nobody else gets injured, we've have rotten luck with injuries over the last few years and very frustrating at this stage, I'd love to see a fully fit Meath team throughout the championship, I reckon we could do some damage.

Agree that we can beat Wicklow wothout those, but the team need momentum etc.We cannot afford to be missing leaders like Gillespie,Reilly or Menton, all very physical too.Even Harry Rooney has barely played in the last few months.Newman would be a loss to.But we have no info on these players..
