Good man, you pick out our best player in this year's championship to have a go at. You really know nothing about football.

Pretty demoralising day really. A bit like Kerry in 2013 as there was a real sense of occasion beforehand, with Cavan fans everywhere, but then given absolutely nothing to shout about. Very underwhelming spectacle as a result, no fault of Donegal's, they have their eyes on a bigger prize.

Hopefully the team can regroup and get a win in 2 weeks, although part of me wonders if making the Super 8s would really be in our best interests when we are evidently well off the pace of the top dogs and could take some hidings that do little to help us.

McHugh made an Ulster Final in his debut year in 95 and suffered a similar beating. We all know what happened 2 years later so here's hoping history might repeat itself.

Very very disappointed with that today. Have to agree with goonie re the gunner, we need his physicality around the centre. Conceding the Donegal kickouts not a good plan imo. Very little movement from our inside forwards especially in first half. Also disappointed with Mc Gee mouthing off in the first half. We had him and murphy on yellow cards and we never laid a glove on either of them after. Donegal not adverse to leaving a wee bit on our players, probably because the knew they had Lane onside. That probably contributed to it looking like men v boys but the reality is we need more power up the centre, more movement inside and more cuteness. On a brighter note, Stephen Murray has serious pace!

Now is not the time to start slating the players or management. They will know better than anyone that they didn't perform to their true potential. What they have done this year is provide 4 great weekends of entertainment to Cavan supporters and hopefully more to come. Let's learn from today's occasion and push on and look to make the super 8's where they can continue to learn and develop as a team. Donegal are a serious outfit and one of the top 4 teams in the country. Hopefully over the next couple of years Cavan will continue to close that gap and use today's experience to drive on and win an Ulster title. Let's get behind the team and help them push on in the qualifiers

It's the mentality that's being embedded in players minds this past 7/8 years that Mickey and Co has to change . And he ain't going to change it in a year. Mc Vitty our best player this year no doubt . But he's been running up blind alleys for 6/7 years and getting turned over . Time and time again. When you get turned over as many times as we did today teams like Donegal make you pay dearly.
Yes it's a learning curve .

Replying To shannon414:  "Tough to watch. Looked at the full panel in the programme today big amount of passsengers. Mickey and Dermot have done good work but need to unearth a few forwards and play them as forwards. That they completely removed the named full forward line told its own story. Mc Vitty up font on his own wins ball but does not look for players in a better position to pas to. Donegal had studied that and knew how to close him down. Head down zinc up a blind alley does not win Ulster Championships
We need 3 full forwards who can play the position and we need half forwards and half backs who can deliver accurate ball to them. It is a simple game.
Gearoid needs help in mid field. Donegal forwards sailed through our defence without a tackle put on them. Donegal today was s step up in class for this panel and we floundered.
Much done more to do. We are a number of players short of a strong panel.
Maybe next year."
Agreed.

Positions we need to fill are,

1. Our kickout strategy has malfunctioned all year.
8. We need a ball winner here.
13. Hopefully Caoimhín can make this his own.
15. Pierson might be the long term solution, although Jack Brady should get more game time.

At stages in the first half we had opportunities to score but went for that extra pass which wasn't necessary.
In fairness better team won.

Really enjoyed the game today and the great support Cavan brought to it. We are a bit furher down the line, that's all and if you stick with the manager, you will win Ulster shortly. It's only year 1 for you guys.

Ps wouldn't be blaming your keeper, our high press is extremely good(without sounding to boast). We done the exact same to Tyrone and more notably Down last year also.

Anyway, hope everyone got home safe and hope ye make the super 8

Undoubtedly your press is excellent, but we had the same issues against Armagh and Monaghan. At the very least, a kickout must be a 50/50 contest, but on several occasions our keeper simply kicked it to one of your unmarked players.

In comparison, Patton had an amazing game. Was very impressed with the precision of his kicks.

In answer to Quiet Man, I dont think we need a whole new team. There is a strong core of 10 or so v good players. They carry the other 16 that makes up the 26. IMO.
4 defenders 1 midfielder 4 half forwards 1 full forward that makes 10. Full v good team is 15. Just my opinion.

I did not say a full team was needed please read my post. I replied to a posted who said what was needed.

Men against boys.
We just don't have the quality at this moment in time to win Ulster. Was like a Southampton or Bournemouth in the cup final against Liverpool or city. Huge gulf in class.
Very subdued atmosphere too was like an opening of a new pitch atmosphere, bizarre.

Watching it back on the Sunday game here.

Couple of things.

I know I've mentioned it before, but I stress it again, our kickouts are killing us.

Secondly, the efforts put in to stop Brennan for his goal were very poor, he got past two or three of our lads with absolute ease.

Third, young Rehill. He's been great all year in his debut season, and to hold his place in the team at a young age shows how highly Mickey rates him. But the goal was on when smiths shot dropped short, all he has to do is tap it into the net. That comes down to experience and know how. In time, we'll learn these things.

There are bright days ahead for Cavan, we just didn't show up today, the lads will be kicking themselves.

Well we had nothing to shout about and Donegal are well used to winning Ulster championships by now so it was never going to be a raucous atmosphere in fairness.

I think we have nothing to lose in trying to get to the super 8's , like division 1 it would be a great to test ourselves against the rest. Donegal's physical movement and skill is ahead of ours and I am sure Mickey can use them as an example for us to aspire to. I agree with the fact that We lost badly against Tyrone in 95 but were so much improved 2 years later.

not all Patton kick outs were great he even kicked out over the side line so an error in his amour. In fairness to Galligan the Cavan players made no effort to support him I know this might sound odd but yesterday I mentioned about Galligan kicking up to the half forward line I don't think one got that far today. Also might be wort noting Clones pitch was not in great condition from the 20 meters into the goal it looked very lose underfoot. Did Galligan have the wrong foot ware on him I wonder. Players often asked me what the ground is like I would be able to advise them about the situation and be able to tell them to wear studded boots or moldies. You would be amased how these little thing effects players.

Shannon414, Gearoid doesn't need help in mf, we need a midfield and Gearoid needs to come on with 15 or 20 minutes left. We can't win big games without trojan workers about the middle, and that he aint. Pierson didn't look the part today either, hard to fathom how he starts ahead of Caoimhin Reilly?
