The idea of playing All-Ireland SFC and SHC finals in the depths of winter has captured the imagination of GAA supporters.
It became a reality today when the GAA finalised their plans for the remainder of the 2020 inter-county season, with the football final to take place on December 19, six days before Christmas. The hurling decider will be staged on December 13.
Here is how Twitter has reacted to the revised inter-county schedule, starting with this Christmas Cracker from former Leitrim footballer Emlyn Mulligan:
I can visualise it already...

Mayo fans, all dressed in Elf outfits blaring out Fairytale of New York as the final whistle blows. Aidan OShea is after winning Sam for Mayo after dinking the fifth peno down the middle as snowballs were being flung at him from the Dubs in the hill!
2020 has been a difficult year for everyone but it will be finished in style with the All Ireland finals just before Christmas. As Andy Williams once said; it's the most wonderful time of the year 🥳🥳.#GAA #Limerick

Spare a thought for the inter county #GAA mammies who might have to cope with The Big Christmas Shop *and* an All Ireland in the one week.

At least it be finished in the year no one wanted the championship to run onto the following year #GAA

Wouldn't crib with many of the decisions outlined by the #GAA today but no provincial/All-Ireland club series is the big one. Only requires six weekends, should be run early next year. Means much more to players than National League, which will presumably take place at that time.
