Midfielder Matthew Ruane hopes today's All-Ireland U-21 success will sow the seeds for bigger and better things to come for Mayo football.

Shortly before being presented with the 'man-of-the-match' award, Ruane reflected on their dramatic final victory over Cork in an interview with TG4's GAA BEO.

"It's unbelievable, the boys have worked so hard all year. It's just absolutely amazing, words can describe how we're feeling.

"What the boys went through the last couple of years, our good friend Darragh (Doherty) passing, it's just an unbelievable feeling and I just hope we made everyone from Mayo proud.

"We never do it the easy way. This is special and onwards and upwards for Mayo football."
