Cork's Gemma O'Connor gets away from Aislinn Connolly of Galway during the All Ireland Senior Camogie semi final at Nowlan Park
Cork's Gemma O'Connor will miss the championship due to a peacekeeping mission.

The 27-year-old corporal is one of a total of 332 Irish troops who will perform a six-month tour of duty in Lebanon as part of a United Nations operation.

One of Ireland's best-known camogie players, O'Connor will be a massive loss to the Rebels, with whom she has won five All-Irelands since joining the squad eleven years ago - as well as seven All Stars.

The St Finbarrs girl told The Irish Independent: "I'm playing senior camogie since 2002 but this year I am taking a break off as I'm travelling to Lebanon on May 9th.

"I got the opportunity to travel overseas and I took that opportunity. Unfortunately, it is running through the season, but what can you do?"
