Bishopstown boss hails historic win

May 18, 2012
Brian Cuthbert praised Bishopstown's battling qualities after their historic 4-18 to 3-20 extra-time victory over Nemo Rangers in last Saturday's Cork SFC first round replay at Pairc Ui Rinn.

The signs looked ominous for the 'Town when Barry O'Driscoll's goal made it 2-13 to 1-9 in Nemo's favour with 14 minutes remaining, but the underdogs hit back immediately with a similar score from Denis Crowley and went on to win after extra-time.

"When Barry goal the goal, we needed a score," the Bishopstown manager said.

"We hung on and hung on and hung on, we were fortunate I suppose, these tipped goals that Denis is getting are a great help, hopefully when the new (square ball) rule comes in on Monday he'll be even more dangerous.

"We had to dig deep. Let's be honest, Bishopstown have been questioned for a long time about heart and determination, this bunch are sick of it, they're going to try and do their best to make us a proud club and a proud team, and I think tonight showed that."

Nemo, who have won eight SFC titles since 2000, will get another chance to resurrect their season, but this defeat won't be easy to come back from.
