Cork SFC: Bishopstown trump Nemo at second attempt
May 14, 2012
History was made at Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday night when Bishopstown recorded their first ever Cork SFC victory over Nemo Rangers.
After extra-time had failed to separate the sides a week ago, Bishopstown won an epic replay on a 4-18 to 3-20 scoreline. Nemo looked to be cruising to victory when Barry O'Driscoll's goal helped them to a 2-13 to 1-9 lead with less than a quarter of an hour remaining, but the 'Town immediately hit back with a similar score from Denis Crowley. Crowley later completed his hat-trick to seal a famous success.
The backdoor now awaits Cork's most successful football club.
In Brinny, Newcestown scored a surprise 2-9 to 0-5 victory over St. Nicholas, while in the big West Cork derby at Clonakilty, O'Donovan Rossa had six points to spare - 3-11 to 1-11 - over Doheny's.
In the intermediate 'premier' championship, county stars Ciaran Sheehan and Daniel Goulding starred for Eire Og in their 1-12 to 1-5 defeat of Cloyne, while newly-promoted Kanturk marked their return to the grade after a 40-year lapse with a 1-7 to 0-7 win over Castletownbere in Ballingeary.
