Club selector suffers freak injury

A selector with the Aghada club in Cork was hospitalised after being struck by a ball.

Kenneth O'Keeffe spent the night in hospital after sustaining the injury before yesterday's Cork SFC first-round meeting with Castelhaven. The Aghada selector was struck on the head by a football and knocked unconscious during the warm-up before the match at Newcestown.

The throw-in was subsequently delayed for almost an hour while he received treatment on the pitch before being removed to hospital by ambulance.

Manager Ronan Dwane confirms in The Examiner that he expects O'Keeffe to make a full recovery: "Thankfully it looks like Kenneth's okay. He had x-rays and was just kept in hospital overnight for observation. It was just during the kickaround when it happened.

"A ball was kicked and it smacked him square on the side of the head. He was then going in and out of consciousness. It was upsetting enough as a few of the lads would be very close to him as they're related to him."
