League of benefit, says Kelly

Patrick Kelly believes the league has helped Cork fine-tune their championship preparations.

The Rebels retained the national football league title at Croke Park on Sunday and Kelly says in today's Irish Daily Star that the competition served Cork well in terms of bringing more consistency to their play:

"It brings confidence. The two games up in Croke Park highlighted some of our flaws. After the Kerry game down in the Pairc, we were at a fairly low ebb and we had been fairly erratic in the league.

"We had a good solid talk after that game. We upped it in the second half above in Castlebar and again in our last game against Dublin.

"We stepped it up another bit in the last two games in Croker and we have been more consistent. Our style of play is a bit better.

"There's a lot to be learned from the league, but it's all about championship. The league is over and we now have six weeks until Kerry or Tipp on June 10th.

"League's are nice but it's all about championship."
