January 16, 2012

Limerick's Eoin Barry with Bart Daly of UCC during the McGrath Cup quarter final at Michael Neville Park
UCC emerged as surprisingly comfortable winners of this McGrath Cup quarter-final against Limerick in Rathkeale.
UCC 1-19
Limerick 0-10
Paul Geaney and Marc Collins were outstanding for the reigning Cork SFC and Sigerson Cup champions who outscored Maurice Horan's experimental side by 0-14 to 0-5 in the second half to set up a semi-final date with Tipperary next weekend. The students led by 1-5 to 0-5 at the break with the goal coming from Collins in the 25th minute after Limerick had held a 0-4 to 0-3 lead.
With the wind to their backs in the second half, UCC took over completely as 10 different players got on the scoresheet. The students' winning margin could have been even greater but for three fine saves from Brian Scanlon in the Limerick goal.
