Rebels taking McGrath Cup seriously
January 13, 2012
Selector Ger O'Sullivan insists that Cork will be giving the McGrath Cup the respect it deserves.
The Rebels kick-off their 2012 campaign against Clare in Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday, and O'Sullivan says they are going out with the intention of winning the pre-season competition which their arch-rivals Kerry have decided to snub.
"It won't be easy to advance against Clare, we have always found them tough opposition in the McGrath, and they reach the final last year when they were beaten by Kerry," he told The Corkman newspaper.
"But we are very serious about doing well in the competition, and hopefully the lads will rise to the challenge and we will get the result we want on Sunday.
"If we are beaten on Sunday, we won't have another competitive game before the league gets underway which would leave us at a bit of a disadvantage in comparison to teams form Leinster and Connacht where they equivalent of the McGrath Cup is run off on a league basis."
