The O'Donovan Rossa minor footballers clinched the 2009, premier
minor (2) league trophy by virtue of a comfortable five point win
over Carbery Rangers, last Thursday night in Moneyvolihane.
The minors were ultimately successful on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-10.
Hughie Leonard and Thomas Hegarty claimed the vital goals in the
first half. Scorers ñ Thomas Hegarty 1-1, Hughie Leonard 1-0, Jack
O'Donovan 0-2, Jonathan Davis 0-2, 0-1 free, Daniel Hazel 0-2, 0-1
free, Ger Minihane, Donie "g Hodnett 0-1 each.

The club would like to express their appreciation to Diarmuid Lucey,
Joe O'Driscoll and Ger O'Brien for their unerring dedication and
commitment over the past three years with the minior footballers.
The senior footballers first round Kelleher Shield fixture against
Valley Rovers has been confirmed for tonight, Thursday, February 25,
at 7.15pm in Cloughduv. Their second round league in an away game
against Glenville, which will be played on Sunday, March 7, at 3pm.
The senior footballers were drawn against Louth outfit Cooley Kickams
in the first round of the P·idÌ " SÈ invitational football tournament
which is being held this weekend in Dingle. Rossas' opening game has
been confirmed for a 12 noon kick off in Annascaul (a village in
Dingle).
Cooley Kickhams are situated in the northern end of County Louth at
the foot of the beautiful Cooley Mountains and are one of the most
successful teams currently plying their trade in the North East
region. The Kickams were beaten finalists in this tournament last
year and return in determined mood. They are managed by former Down
All-Ireland winning captain D.J. Kane who lifted the Sam Maguire Cup
in 1991. If Skibb triumph in their opening fixture, they will play
the winners of Rosscommon Gaels or Rahillys (Drogheda) in the semi-
final at 4pm in Gallarus on Saturday.
The under-21 footballers continued their intense preparations for
their forthcoming first round championship encounter against Carbery
Rangers, which has been confirmed for Saturday, March 20, in
Ballinacarriga, with a hard fought challenge win over Clonakilty in
Ahamilla last Sunday afternoon.
Paudie Crowley lined out at left half-back on the Cork Vocations
football team which defeated Meath by three points in their semi-
final encounter played last Saturday in Templemore. Cork will now
play reigning All-Ireland vocational champions Monaghan this
Saturday, in Dr. Cullen Park, Carlow. The club would like to convey
their best wishes to Paudie and his fellow teams-mates as they
prepare to bring the cup home to Leeside for the first time since 2008.
The junior hurlers re-commence their season with a challenge game
away to Clonakilty next Wednesday evening. The junior 1 hurlers
league programme is due to commence on Sunday, March 21, with a home
tie against championship opponents Ballinascarthy. Jack O'Driscoll,
will represent his school Cistercen College Roscrea, in the Leinster
Schools hurling final clash against St. Eannas, Ballyboden, Dublin in
O'Moore Park, Portlaoise this Friday night.
James McCarthy and Donie "g Hodnett were part of the CIT Freshers
football team that recently defeated University of Ulster
Jordanstown, in a semi-final gam played recently to clinch their
place in the finals of the Colleges Fresher Tournament. Donie scored
1-3 from play, whilst James lined out between the sticks. Colin
Crowley was a member of the CIT football squad that were suprisingly
defeated by DIT in their Sigerson Cup quarter-final clash played last
Wednesday.
Don Davis and Martin Bohane, were part of the successful West Cork
Garda football team that defeated Analog Limerick, in Kilmallock, to
annex Munster inter-firm football championship medals.
The minor footballers are scheduled to begin their premier league (2)
campaign with a home tie against Mayfield this Sunday, February 28,
at 3.30pm. The following weekend the minors are scheduled to travel
to play Eire "g, in Ovens.
Kieran Walsh has been pointed junior 1 football manager for the
season. The junior 1 footballers begin their league campaign with a
home tie against Castletownbere which has been fixed for Friday,
March 5, at 8pm, under lights in the Rossa Park. Their second league
game of the season is an away tie against Clonakilty, on Sunday,
March 14, at 3pm.
The junior 2 footballers are scheduled to begin their league
programme with a home game against Randal "gs on the weekend of March
6/7. The following weekend, they travel to play Gabriel Rangers in
their second league outing. A committee meeeting will be held on
Monday, March 1, at 8.30pm in the pavilion.
There was no winner of the lotto draw which took place in The
Fairfield Bar, last Monday night for e2,000. The numbers drawn were
1, 4, 7 and 20. The consolation prize winner was Helen Lynch. Next
week's lotto draw will be held in The Horse and Hound Bar and will
have a jackpot of e2,250.
