On a busy weekend on the second level colleges front, Tipperary bridged a six-year gap when they edged out Kilkenny by 2-13 to 1-13 to claim the All-Ireland Vocational Schools SHC title at Semple Stadium on Saturday.

Midfielder Stephen Murray hit 0-6 for the winners, who led by 2-6 to 1-5 at half-time thanks to goals from Tommy Heffernan and Sean Cleary. But Kilkenny battled back to draw level in the second half before Murray's second half haul of six points proved decisive for Tipp.

Cork will face Monaghan in the All-Ireland Vocational Schools SFC final following their respective semi-final wins over Meath and Galway. Brian Hurley bagged 0-9 in the Rebels' 0-16 to 2-7 win over Meath, while holders Monagthan were 2-9 to 0-10 winners over Galway in Longford.

In the Leinster Colleges SHC 'A' semi-final, St. Kieran's College overcame Kilkenny rivals Castlecomer CS by 2-14 to 2-7 with John Power - brother of county star Richie - helping himself to 2-4 for the winners.

The other semi-final between Colaiste Eoin and Kilkenny CBS was postponed due to snow at Ratheniska in Co. Laois.

Meanwhile, Clonmel CBS captured the Munster Colleges SFC 'B' title with a 1-9 to 0-4 victory over Mildetown CBS.
