Dual star Briege wins in August
October 03, 2008
Cork Camogie and Ladies Football dual star Briege Corkery was presented with the 96FM/C103 Cork GAA Sports Star of the month award for August in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel on Monday last.
It was an exciting month for the livewire dual star as Briege helped both Cork teams into their respective All-Ireland finals, in fact the two semi-finals were played within twenty-four hours of each other, and Briege was excellent on both days.
Since then of course the Camogie title has been won and Briege was named player of the match in that great win over Galway and next Sunday she will play in the Ladies Football Final against Monaghan.
Mick Dolan Chairman of the Cork County Board congratulated Briege on her award and said "I was priviliged to be in Croke Park last Sunday to witness that great display by Briege and her colleagues and hopefully that they can go on now to complete the double next Sunday".
Shay Livingstone General Manager of the Rochestown Park Hotel said
"we are delighted to be honouring such a wonderful exponent of both camogie and ladies football as Briege is an exceptional talent and hopefully before the year is out many more honours will come her way."
Briege took it all in her stride and said she was delighted to be honoured and hoped that next Sunday would go well and complete an exciting few months for all involved.
Frank Murphy and Jerry O'Sullivan represented the Cork County Board while Kieran Mc Geary and Leah Fagan of 96 FM were in attendance along with Marion Mc Carthy Chairperson of the Cork Camogie Board, while Tom Luddy Chairman of the Ladies Football Board was also present.
Jim Mc Carthy coach to the camogie team was in attendance along with stars of that great victory Joanne O'Callaghan, Aoife Murray, Rosarie Holland, Linda O'Connell and team captain Catriona Foley with the O'Duffy Cup, while Eamonn Ryan and Jim Mc Evoy of the Ladies Football management were on hand to congratulate Briege.
Family members were also present along with her parents was her sister Marie who next week plays in the All-Ireland 'B' Final against Kilkenny as Cork bids for another title.
Briege now joins the list of previous winners in the race for the overall winner which will be announced at the Gala Banquet on December 1st.
