O'Donovan Rossa GAA Notes

September 25, 2008
The O'Donovan Rossa junior hurlers South West junior A hurling final against Diarmuid O Mathuna, has been scheduled for this Saturday, September 27, in Rossmore, at 5pm. This is the first time since 1956 the Skibbereen hurlers have reached the South West junior A hurling final when they were defeated by Courcey Rovers. It is 75 years since the Flyer Nyhan Cup resided in Dear Old Skibbereen when the cup was annexed by the famous three in a row team. Rossas have shown great resolve, steely determination combined with no little skill to see off the challenges of Kilbree, St. James and Dohenys to reach the final. Much credit is due to trainers Kieran Walsh, John O'Driscoll and Mick O'Driscoll for their commitment and expertise in guiding this dedicated and inspirational squad to an historic final appearance. All support would be greatly appreciated for Saturday's mammoth clash. Extra-time will be played in the event that the teams are deadlocked at the end of normal time. The winners of Saturday's tie are scheduled to play Tullylease in the junior hurling county quarter- final on the weekend of October 4/5. The minor footballers resume their championship campaign when they meet Clonakilty in a much anticipated semi-final encounter at Rosscarbery, this Sunday, September 28, at 3.30pm. The minor footballers have defeated Castlehaven and Carbery Rangers thus far this season. The minors face a tough task as they prepare to meet a very strong Clonakilty team who comfortably defeated Newcestown in their quarter-final clash last week. The winners of this clash will proceed to a final against the victors of the Dohenys v Bantry clash. The junior 2 footballers championship clash against Newcestown has been provisionally scheduled for the second weekend of October. A meeting for all committee members will be held in the pavilion on Thursday, September 25, at 8.30pm. There was no winner of the lotto draw which took place in the Gabon Saor last Monday night for e3,500. The numbers drawn were 2, 11, 17 and 22. The consolation prize winner was Noel and Nora O'Driscoll. Next week's lotto draw will be held in the Cellar Bar and will have a jackpot of e3,750. John Bohane, Secretary O'Donovan Rossa.
