Mulcahy boost for Rebelettes

September 16, 2008
Cork's hopes of achieving a four-in-a-row of All-Ireland ladies football wins in Sunday week's final against Monaghan have received a significant boost with the news that top scorer Valerie Mulcahy has been cleared to play. The Rockban player was controversially red-carded in the final minute of the Rebelettes' All-Ireland semi-final victory over Tyrone last Saturday week and was set to miss the final after she was reported by referee Liam McDonagh for verbal abuse. However, despite being cleared to play, Mulcahy is disappointed at the fact that she will still have to serve a two-week suspension. "It's a relief to know that I am playing, but at the same time I am disappointed," she said after the disciplinary hearing in Tullamore last night. Mulcahy was accompanied to the hearing by team manager Jim McEvoy.
