Cork chief and Spillane unite in imploring fans to turn up
August 23, 2008
Cork GAA Chairman Mick Dolan and Kerry football legend Pat Spillane have both urged fans of their respective counties to turn up in big numbers for this Sunday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final clash in Croke Park.
"I think Cork can win this game," Dolan enthused. "The team area a great bunch of lads and it's a pity they don't get the same support as the hurlers."
Meanwhile Spillane was no less regretful about the reluctance of Kerry fans to travel to Croker en masse: "They've been spoilt over the years and haven't travelled to semi-finals," said Spillane.
"This team is on the cusp of greatness and should be getting great backing.
"Back in the 1970s Iarnod Eireann was capable of transporting 20,000 Kerry supporters to Dublin.
"Now it can't take half that. The roads out of Cork are very good but some of the ones out of Kerry are still Third World."
