Clare are set to appeal the red card issued to midfielder Cathal O'Connor in the second-half of Saturday's All-Ireland SFC qualifier victory over Roscommon.

O'Connor was given his marching orders by referee Padraig Hughes at Salthill, having caught opponent Niall Daly with a high arm two minutes into the resumption.

It means that the Coolmeen clubman will be suspended for the Banner County's quarter-final date with Kerry next month and although manager Colm Collins condeded it was "a reckless challenge", the Irish Examiner reports today that the suspension will be appealed.

"It was a reckless challenge," Collins said following the 2-12 to 1-9 win over the Rossies. "Some days they get penalised and some days they don't. Today it was, but I thought overall Padraig Hughes had a very good game and I have no issue with him."
