Peter Duggan says the Clare hurlers are benefiting from intense competition for places in their starting XV.

The Clarecastle attacker is one of the many gifted hurlers trying to nail down a regular place in Davy Fitzgerald's team and he told The Irish Independent:

"Competition has really stepped up this year and I think it has benefited us a huge amount. Competition has really, really stepped up in terms of everyone in the camp wants to get a jersey.

"I don't think players are bitter with each other over playing, everyone is delighted with each other. The one thing about the camp in Clare is that everyone is best friends in the team.

"If we are going out together or anything we all go together. There is nobody going off individually doing their own thing. We've all grown up playing with each other. Guys won three All-Ireland U21s together so everyone is happy to see everyone playing. That is a massive part of why the camp has a good atmosphere."

Looking to Sunday's Munster SHC semi-final against Waterford, he adds: "We know what to expect from Waterford so it's going to be a huge clash, a massive game in terms of the year for both teams. If we win it would give us a huge chance to win Munster.

"When we won the All-Ireland I know we went through the back door, but we hope to rectify that to get a Munster medal for everyone on the panel."
