Clare midfielder Colm Galvin says he's delighted to see Davy Fitzgerald's bold decision to bring Donal Og Cusack into his backroom team has shown early signs of paying off.

The Clonlara clubman admitted that he felt two big personalities in the game working together could have ended up as a recipe for disaster, but with the Banner men currently gearing up for the National League final against Waterford on Sunday, it seems that decision was the right one.

"The both have big ideas but, to be honest, they work so well together," Galvin said in today's Irish News.

"People were probably thinking, 'this is a recipe for disaster' but it hasn't been. They both listen to each other's opinions, including the forwards coach.

"Donal mainly works with the backs. From the goalie's view, he obviously knows what's going on as a former 'keeper himself and he's very good tactically.

"Davy tries to work a bit more with the forwards so they don't clash too much but they both really bring great ideas to the table. They're a great combination."

Throw-in for Sunday's Division One final at Semple Stadium is at 3.30pm.
