Clare chairman Michael McDonagh has given his full support to football manager Colm Collins, who has been slapped with a 12-week ban.

The Cratloe man has been hit with the suspension by the CCCC arising from an incident which took place during the Banner's Allianz League game against Fermanagh. Collins has apparently accepted the ban, meaning he won't be on the sideline for Saturday week's Munster SFC opener against Limerick at Cusack Park.

Despite this, the Clare county board are standing firmly behind their man with McDonagh telling the Irish Daily Star: "Colm Collins has my full support in the job he is doing.

"He has brought a highly-motivated backroom to Clare football, which will reap rewards in the coming years. This matter is now at an end and it will not disrupt any match preparations involving the senior footballers before their Munster championship game against Limerick."

Collins was reported by the referee for what was McDonagh terms as "minor physical interference" with a linesman.

Meanwhile, Clare suffered a 0-14 to 4-12 defeat to Dublin in last night's SF challenge which marked the official switching-on of the new floodlights at Miltown Malbay's Hennessy Park.
