McDermott turns attention to Waterford

Clare football manager Michael McDermott
Clare boss Micheal McDermott immediately turned his thoughts to the NFL opener against Waterford on February 5 after his side's heavy McGrath Cup defeat to Cork last Sunday.

"The most important ambition we have for the month of February is the first match against Waterford," he said in the Clare Champion.

"The opposition today was a completely different level than UL in the first round. That's what we learned today - that we have to step up quite a bit to get to that level. It was also an opportunity to use a number of new players.

"When you look at the two games we've played in the McGrath Cup, I think we've used a panel of maybe 25. There's no doubt about it the most disappointing thing about it today, we made too many mistakes.

"But it's the month of January and I would hope players will see the mistakes they made and make sure they won't happen again in another match."
