Flannan's ladies in Munster bid

January 20, 2012
Renowned hurling nursery St. Flannan's will hope to make their mark in ladies football when they contest the Munster Colleges senior 'B' final against Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig next Tuesday.

Since girls were first admitted to the Ennis school in 2002, ladies football has flourished and a win next week would be seen as a significant breakthrough.

"Last year we won the Clare junior and we got to quarter-final of Munster but were beaten by a point. This year was our first year winning the senior (county) and we were delighted with that," St. Flannan's manager Emer Considine explained to the Clare Champion.

"There's such a strong tradition with the hurling and football on the men's side, the camogie was strong and is getting stronger every year. The ladies football has been here for a while, but now the players have really made their mark on it this year."
