New camogie ground to be named after Fr McNamara
January 20, 2012
The Clare camogie board's new pitch in Doora is to be named after the late Fr Michael McNamara, who was synonymous with the sport in the county.
A former chairperson of the Clare camogie board, Fr McNamara was part of the management team that guided the Banner County to an All-Ireland intermediate championship success in 1993. The Kilmaley native also served as chairman of the Clare GAA county board and was a selector with a number of the county's hurling teams.
Fr McNamara's brother, Cllr Tom McNamara, said his family were honoured by the gesture.
"The family are delighted that his contribution is being recognised as he devoted so much of his time to camogie and Gaelic Games. It is a fitting tribute," he said.
