Pat Vaughan will captain the Clare hurlers in the coming season.

The Crusheen clubman is expected to skipper the side for the first time in a challenge match against Wexford this weekend ahead of the Waterford Crystal Cup opening round clash against IT Tralee on January 16. Vaughan takes over the captaincy from Brian O'Connell, who is currently travelling. Last year's under 21 captain, John Conlon, has been appointed vice-captain.

Banner County boss Ger 'Sparrow' O'Loughlin is without 14 players, who are committed to their college sides, for the Waterford Crystal Cup, while Mark Flaherty, Alan Markham, Michael Scanlon and Martin Murphy are among those who haven't been included in his 2011 squad. Tweet
